Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencils & Lipsticks - Swatches and Review
By now you’ve likely heard about the new formulations of Urban Decay’s lipsticks, and the beautiful new packaging. I was lucky enough to have my choices from the new range given to me to play with, and I had to show you them ASAP! I wore 69 to the Lucky Magazine x Baublebar party a few days ago — here’s an instagram from that event by the way, with my makeup fairy godmother, Eva Chen (the new & fantastic EIC of Lucky, well deserved!) — and I was so, so impressed. I haven’t been so impressed by a lipstick in awhile. I’ll break it down by application, packaging, and formulation.
In terms of longevity: One application lasted me 8 hours of drinking, eating, and general happy living and didn’t even come off entirely when I came home to wash my face. Here’s what it looks like after 8 hours, if you’re wondering. Looks almost freshly applied.
In terms of formulation: I applied 69 lipliner all over my lips before the lipstick version. I’m not a huge fan of lip liners in general, I kind of like seeing my lipstick wear into some sort of ombre with my natural lip color throughout the day. However, the liners are all creamy, don’t require much pressure and are very pigmented. You could just wear one of them all over for a lip color and be set, really. As for the lipstick formulations: super creamy, full coverage in two swipes, and moisturizing without slip or bleeding. Usually, with moisturizing lipsticks, I expect some slipping, some movement with the color, but it really just sticks. I really, really hate to sound like an advertisement, but these are some of the best lipsticks I’ve ever tried.
Packaging: It’s really lovely. I love shiny makeup packaging! I’m a total sucker for beautiful packaging in the first place (I’ve definitely bought things I couldn’t even wear just for the packaging) so it’s nice that the product inside is as good as the outside. Some UD products have flimsy caps, like, one of the problems with the Super Saturated lipsticks are that the pencil caps have a tendancy to come off in your bag or what have you. That won’t happen with these. The tubes have some heft to them, and the caps will stay on. It’s along similar design lines to their 50th anniversary palette, so I’m into it.
Overall? Run to get them, don’t walk. Now, let me note: These were sent to me, but I wasn’t obligated to review them, and I have every intention of buying some of the other shades myself. I am VERY impressed and give these particular shades a gold star with flying colors. I’m not the only one, either.
Shades mentioned: 69, Anarchy, Bang, Venom, Native, and Jilted.
You’ll certainly see these in upcoming FOTDs, but let me know if you want lip swatches of anything in particular. Also, these photos were taken in natural light, and they haven’t been color corrected or edited in any way other than resizing, so they are as color accurate as your computer screen will permit. :)
