SS’13 - Helmut Lang

LEAD ARTIST: Hannah Murray for NARS Cosmetics

TREND: Fresh skin and lived-in makeup

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “Juergen Teller’s images of Annie Morton came to mind,” said Michael and Nicole Colovos, the husband and wife designing team behind the label. “An off-duty ‘90s girl on a Sunday morning with slept-in, smudged eyes and scrubbed polished skin - a cool, effortless beauty.”

LOOK: “The clothes had a lightness to them with lots of color and print and layering so we wanted to toughen the girls up a little but do it in a fresh, believable way,” said Murray. “The focus is really on the skin, which is fresh, sporty and scrubbed clean.”

The Nonoo presentation today was really lovely! Reminded me of Frida Kahlo in a lot of ways, actually. I don’t have the description sheet explaining the collection with me (I left it in a swag tote that I dumped at Lincoln Center because I hate carrying around extra things) so I can’t tell you what they used. It just looks like a really healthy, happy, simple makeup look. Glowing skin, bright lip. Into the simplicity, and also the diverse casting.

Naeem Kahn - Fall 2012

LEAD ARTIST: James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry

TREND: Precise, sharply drawn eyes

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “Italian actress Monica Vitti inspired me,” said the designer Naeem Kahn. “I wanted to do a collection that referenced Italy in the 1960s…a beautiful time.”

LOOK: “The look is all about the precision, sharpness, and the blackness of the line,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “Everything else has that ‘barely there’ feeling. The eye line has to be really sharp and pointed up towards the temple - it’s not a cat eye, and it’s not a wide eye. It draws the eyes up.”

Honor - Fall 2012

LEAD ARTIST: James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry

TREND: Pretty, polished skin

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “It’s a love story between a preppy boy and exotic Argentinean girl,” said Honor designer Giovanna Randall. “The merging of two worlds - very refined and earthy with tapestry prints and a modern take on art deco.”

LOOK: “Skin is beautiful, luminous and glossy,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “Eyes are deliberate and were sculpted in a chalky grey shade.”

Creatures of the Wind - Fall 2012

LOOK: “The look is about ethereal, forest-wet skin,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “You can’t use enough moisturizer - it’s dewy and really radiant. The eye should be defined in its shape but worn-in with its effect. As if you can see the eyelid through it, which we get from the gloss.”

Fashion Week Beauty Must-Have Items

Okay so I’m going to be covering some shows this season again for NYFW (and instagramming my travels for Lucky Magazine, and tweeting occasionally from FutureClaw Magazine, but mostly from my twitter). This means I’m gonna be surrounded by FREAKISHLY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE who most likely have their own makeup and hair team every morning and go for touch ups in between shows. Because that is how this industry works. BUT! I have all that I need to look not like a show-crasher and more like I deserve to be at the shows (which is debatable, but I’m not complaining, I love my job).

Last season I asked some of my friends what they’re bringing to the tents for Teen Vogue, and now I’ll tell you what I’m bringing this season! These are favorite must have items that I literally cannot leave the house for more than a day without.
