products on blast: limecrime carousel lip gloss

we swore a long time ago that we wouldn’t feature lime crime products on PD, and we weren’t going to — until now. what we have to say isn’t great though, so it’s not like we totally went back on our word. i purchased this lipgloss in my search for the perfect purple lip color and was in short, sorely disappointed. i’ve already returned it for a refund. here’s a video of how it applies — really applies, versus the photo where it looks beautiful and like a galaxy on your lips.

what do you guys think of limecrime? have either of you tried it?

I’ve written about it Doe Deere and limecrime a few times on my own tumblr. I first heard about Limecrime through this blog, and this one, and a friend pointed me to this post about Doe’s history. (Granted the last link has some low blows but it’s still relevant). 

To the point? I think she’s gorgeous and has great personal style and I read her blog, but I would never buy anything from her, don’t respect the way she runs her business and I am not impressed by her at all. She threatens bloggers who write negative reviews on her products with lawsuits, denies it, sells repackaged eyeshadow, denies it, and defends herself rather unprofessionally addressing ‘haters’, bashes her competitors rather poorly as anonymous— who are more professional, have better eyeshadows, and have never been accused of anything Doe has been EVER… the list goes on. This is just stuff I can list off the top of my head, too. 

So, no, I have never tried Limecrime, but, I never will and you will never see a review on anything related to that brand here. I don’t want to waste my money on something so dishonest and if Chi-Chi contemplated buying Limecrime I’d kick her. (Chi-Chi: …I would never consider purchasing from them, no. Kicks are not needed. ;D)

While it’s pretty popular for an ‘indie’ makeup company, there’s been a lot of rumors for quite a while surrounding the possibility it’s been repackaged, or what have you. I’ve heard the owner actually threatened to sue the blogger who initially wrote the scandalous post concerning Lime Crime? Read the post yourself and draw your own conclusions. Recently, Doe Deere (the founder) wrote a blog post addressing the rumors. Personally, I balk at buying from a company with such a mixed reputation, though I adore the owner’s personal style and the product colors. I just thought you guys should know the backstory behind the brand.
