Arabelle’s January Favorites

Lots of products to review, so here are some new ones by way of a monthly favorites post. (Here’s the last monthly favorites one — you’ll see some old faces).
Jane Iredale Triple Pearl Powder Finishing Powder* ($68) - It’s probably the best setting powder I’ve ever used, it really blends in any imperfections and smooths, I’ve been using it for a few weeks and it has delivered all it promises for me. I don’t have to touch up throughout the day either. Packaging is kind of bulky but I guess that is also ‘luxurious’. I’d rather have something travel appropriate, personally.
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette* ($27) - I have been waiting for this product ever since the Naked came out because I love matte shadows and personally, for my super fair skin, this is great, compact, and so worth the price. The colors blend out well, are pigmented and not as chalky as some UD shadows can sometimes be. Love. These would look chalky and unnatural on medium to dark skin though. Also, the palette is kind of hard to open but maybe that is just me.
Benefit High Beam ($26) - Previously reviewed here.
Zoya Nail Polish in Song ($8) - Swatch and discussion to be posted a few posts before this, go check it out.
NARS Danmari Palette (LE/DC) - I love orgasms and also Orgasm. (this is my blog i’ll be inappropriate if I wanna)
Urban Decay Setting Spray* ($29) - I have been using the Cooling/Hydrating formulation the most because I have dry skin and I think it does help, but the Long-Lasting formulation is definitely the best and practically cements my makeup into place.
Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer in Fair/Light ($39) - Best under-eye concealer I’ve tried. It’s heavy enough to use on acne and scarring too, and doesn’t get wrinkly or cakey or whatever. You need very little of it as well.
K- Palette Real Lasting Waterproof 24h Eyeliner ($15.70) - This has the thinnest brush. The thinnest. It’s also super super black and does not budge.
MAC Violetta ($15) - On me, this is like a ‘natural’ lip color because it perfectly, and I mean perfectly, matches my hair color. I’ve grown bored of my usual purples (Belladonna, Kontrol) but this breathes new life into the color for me.
INGLOT 545 AMC Lip Gloss ($16) - Paraben free & not tested on animals if you didn’t know (and if you care). I don’t really wear lip gloss very often but this is soooo pretty and you can actually see the duo on your lips, it’s really pigmented and strange and lovely.
Dermablend Quick-Fix Concealer ($23) - I actually ran out of the tube I had of this. Like I ended up scraping the very last bits of it out. I have never hit pan so thoroughly on a product before and before I even hit pan I ordered 2 more backups because this is my Holy Grail Concealer. If I could only limit my makeup collection to like 3 things this would be one of them.

inglot lipstick 292 inglot lipstick 290 occ liptar in rx pbco lipstick in indigo bridge mac lipmix in blue

fashinpirate:

All the blue lipsticks I currently have with me in my dorm. The names are the captions, just click the photos. I would have done these photos with my DSLR but it’s dark out and I prefer natural light when I use my real camera. I have FOTD’s with Indigo Bridge and RX on powderdoom if you search for it though. (This means do not ask me, a google search or click through the tags will suffice.)

Initial thoughts:

  1. inglot 292 — is quite similar to Indigo Bridge. I think for practicalities sake I’ll probably use this formulation more because it’s in bullet form and I don’t have to fix my lipline with this. PBCO is creamier, but a heavier formulation. This one is also more blue based and doesn’t read black in any light. You can feel the slight grit that makes this a little shimmery, too.
  2. Inglot 290 is actually my favorite out of these photos? I wouldn’t think such a pale color would be so nice on me. It has some slip though, and you need several layers for true opacity. I have’nt worn this out yet for any length of time but I can tell it’s going to be very high maintenence. I think for this shade, you can replicate it using lip tars (Feather + RX) for more longevity.
  3. OCC Lip Tar in RX. The color that started it all. (Actually no, my first lipstick was actually one from Hot Topic when I was in middle school, and it was a black based blue. lol.) I mean, I love this forever.
  4. PBCO Lipstick in Indigo Bridge - I am very fond of this color, I think it’s so beautiful and creamy and pigmented.
  5. Mac Lipmix in Blue - super dark blue. I was expecting it to be a liquid like OCC Lip Tar because of the packaging, but it’s more like a cream product — not as wet or gooey (gross) as Lip Tar, and it applies drier on your lips. It settled into my lip lines and looked gross (perhaps because of the incessant rubbing from these swatches though) so I put some clear MAC Lipglass on it for some shine. It is I would say, kind of a dark navy, and requires more blending than Lip Tar. They are noticably different formulations. I prefer lip tar, but if that feathers for you you might prefer Lip Mix. I haven’t seen this color in sunlight yet so I can’t say 100% it’s a perfect dupe of RX.

Here are some tentative swatches of the INGLOT purchases I made at IMATS. I wasn’t really expecting to haul anything because I didn’t think they’d have the Pacific Blue collection, but I was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately they gave me the wrong eyeshadow purchase (>:|) and that is the straw that breaks my back because I’m so goddamn tired of their stupid numbering system. If their shadows had actual names, they wouldn’t have given me the wrong shade. BLARRGGGG.

You’ll obviously see me wearing these lip products in future FOTD’s so keep an eye out. Sorry I can’t provide face swatches at this time. (These photos are under flash, btw.)

We recently had a few questions on the best purple lippie out there, so I thought I’d share some more of my purples. I have already found my dream purple — worn and swatched here — but I have purchased several on the way to find it, these 3 being the main contenders.

  • OCC Liptar in Hoochie ($14) - I love this product, it’s going to be my main haul at IMATS. They just released a darker purple which I’m definitely going to buy. I like this, it’s just not practical to swipe on, you need a brush or qtip. Mix with the black lip tar for a darker purple or a lighter one for a paler one. Great purchase imo.
  • CoverGirl Divine ($6) - I love CG lipsticks, this one isn’t great though and I’d skip it. It tends to seperate weirdly on my lips. Color doesn’t spread evenly, it’s high maintenance. The other colors I’ve tried from CG are nice though.
  • Inglot Lipstick in 65 - ($10???) Impulse rage purchase because the lipstick I wanted at Sephora was sold out (for the 6th time or something). I just went into Inglot and make puppy eyes at the SA and he soothed my makeup pains and led me to this. After wearing it a few times I wish I didn’t buy it, cause it is so SO sheer and separates in like .22424 seconds though it looks nice in these photos, it’s not something I’d recommend. You can even see it seperating in the last photo with the swatches! Blah. INGLOT makes better eyeshadow than lipstick I guess.

The purple lipstick questions never cease, so I’m bringing back this swatch post. I have a few more colors now but this is still a good reference.

I don’t want to bombard y’all with Cyber Monday / Black Friday Deals because you can get the deets anywhere, really, but these might not be ones you’d notice right away but they’re too good to pass up imo!

Milani - 50% off w/ FREE SHIPPING. Milani has some of the best drugstore makeup hands down — their Liquif’Eye Liners are on par with Urban Decay 24/7 Pencils at just $7 a pop, and their glosses are excellent as well. They have a YSL Touche Eclat Dupe you might want to try too, and their blushes are beautiful.

Sugarpill - 30% off on Black Friday, 20% off on Saturday. I have not been able to keep my hands off my Sugarpill ever since I got it and have literally nothing bad to say about the brand at all.

INGLOT - INGLOT, Urban Decay, and Sugarpill are my Holy Trinity of Eyeshadow Brands. My Freedom Palette is my child and if I could afford it, I’d grab another one during this black friday sale with no hesitation. INGLOT rarely does sales so I highly suggest hauling if you can.

You can wear this look w/ glasses easily What I used for my eyes!

Decided to step it up with my FOTD’s. My roommate was skeptical that I would find use for my colorful eyeshadows since she doesn’t think i wear eyeshadow enough, so I’m making it a point to experiment with my newest acquisitions. What do you think? Did I do good? I followed this tutorial but changed it a little to suit me. If you want to know exactly what I used on my, just ask — everything I used is in the photoset or that video tutorial I linked, though.

The rest of the face is very, very simple. No blush, just BB Cream and NYX Paris on the lips. Paris is my favorite NYX shade and was one of my favorite colors to wear in the summer.

Today’s FOTD. I felt like giving some love to my non-UD palettes. My INGLOT palette is my favorite child, it’s so vibrant. ♥_♥ I might as well have used my Wet n’ Wild palette for this look tho, they’re basically the same colors. Maybe I’ll dupe the look so you guys can see the similarities.  High-res

inglot review

So the other day I sold my MCR ticket so I could buy some Inglot to make up for the fact I was too cheap and lazy and poor to go to IMATS (yet again. I should learn to budget, man). I wanted to make sure I got a palette before they raised the prices — which they’ll do on May 1st, and signifcantly (around $30 more for a 10 shadow palette. I’m pressed as hell about it too).

(I also got a new product to review an hour earlier in the mail. More about that later.)

This is a long and detailed review so it’s under a cut. (edit: or not. tumblr is being a prat. >:|)

Their Website: I hate their website. But this is a common complaint; they haven’t given names to the shadows and they go by numbers and the way the shopping cart is set up is that you can’t really add and subtract shadows or click on them to go back to the individual shadow. You need to know exactly what you want before you add things into the cart. Also, they don’t show you when they’ve discounted things on your reciept, you only find out in the sum total / your credit card charge. This freaked me out because I thought I had ended up paying more than they said but it was my own mistake. If the product was any less amazing I probably wouldn’t purchase again from them because the website makes me grumpy. I think next time I’ll just buy in store.

Shipping: Shipping for my 10-palette was $9, which is kinda steep to me (average shipping on websites for me is like $6) but it did arrive fast — less than 3 days! — and in good packaging. On the reciept it said the package would be 20 lbs — W H A T — so I was complaining to my friends about how they must ship it in a golden brick or something. But in reality the box was actually perfectly fitting for the palette and I’m super happy with it. I buy a lot of makeup online and 90% of the time companies ship out items in boxes far bigger than necessary. I don’t like wasted materials or big boxes, because I save the boxes to recycle them and big boxes take up too much room.

It was perfectly packed, nothing rattled, each shadow can individually so I could order the shadows in my own way, which is fun. It also came with a sample. :)

Packaging: Totally dreamy, high quality and pretty. It’s perhaps half an inch wider than Urban Decay’s Sustainable Shadow Box Palette, and it’s magnetic rather than close/open like MACs. This means no shadow spilling, which is awesome. The only downside is perhaps that you need to be  super extra careful when you open it so you don’t scrape the eyeshadows. The cover kind of twists off, it doesn’t move at all if you try to flip it open. The magnets are so strong you can apparently stack multiple palettes on top of each other. So neat and lovely. *o*

Quality: SO PIGMENTED, I CAN’T DEAL WITH MY LIFE. I heard they’d be good, but like, you can just hover your finger on the shadow and there is so much pigment. SO MUCH. I LOVE IT. My eyes actually widened with glee, I am so happy with the product. ಥ⌣ಥ I can complain about how expensive / fugly / etc the website is or whatever but the quality of the pigmented makes up for it far and beyond necessity. More pigmented than MAC shadows I have, Estee Lauder, etc nothing else compares. The only shadow that somewhat disappointed me was AMC 66, the shimmery violet. It didn’t have as much pigment as the others (as you’ll see on the rather shittacular swatches) when I poked it but it’s still okay.

The color I’m talking about is the purple next to the red. The color underneath it is actually deep purple like Special Effects Deep Purple (the color my hair used to be) and I luvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv it. ♥_♥ I chose colors that I could use together and individually for looks, specifically seeking out mattes because I don’t have many. And apparently I chose half mattes, half varying versions of shimmer. The way Inglot does it’s naming is a bit weird — AMC, D.S, etc — so I’ll direct you to a blog post you can read here

Keep in mind I just poked the shadows with the tips of my fingers. ;___; So beautiful and pigmented and powerful I cry and cry and cry.

Overall: I would totally, totally recommend Inglot and actually urge you to buy it over MAC etc because of the variety Inglot offers and the price per shadow is much better considering the size you get. You get more product for competing or better quality. Even with the price increase it’s still better in comparison and I like the palette setup more. I think if you haven’t purchased from Inglot before, do it before May 1, the time the price increase happens. I probably can’t afford to buy another palette right now because of my splurges this month but I’m gonna do it anyway bc I have no self control.
