DIY: BLACKHEADS, BE GONE
Bye bye blackheads: Use a half lemon and 3-4 drops of honey. Rub the lemon on your face, especially in blackhead-prone areas like nose, chin etc. Leave the lemon and honey mixture on your face for 5 minutes, then wash it with cold water. You should see the results immediately. Additionally, lemon juice will also fade other marks/spots on the face and honey will moisturize.

Has anyone tried this before? I’m curious. High-res

D.I.Y Skincare from Your Kitchen

Masks, scrubs — they can add up to a lot of money. If you don’t want to fork over the cash it’s ok, you can still use these products you most likely have around your house.

  • Sugar - Unrefined sugar is the best imo. Add olive oil and you have a face scrub and/or lip scrub.
  • Yogurt - Plain vanilla yogurt! So moisturizing and wonderful for dry, dehydrated skin. You can mix this with lemon juice, aspirin, avocado, etc for great mask for acne prone, dry, sensitive skin.
  • Lemon Juice - Like I said above, you can mix it with yogurt, or you can also whiten your yellow nails by soaking them in some lemon juice for a few minutes. It also fades acne scars and can be used as a toner.
  • Olive Oil - can be used as makeup remover, as moisturizer, or a hair mask.
  • Avocado - mash it up and make a conditioner, moisturizer, or face mask.
  • Coconut Oil - good for your hair and face. Basically bathe yourself in it.
  • Aspirin - I know this isn’t really in your kitchen, but you probably have it around. Make sure it’s uncoated aspiring. If you mix a few tablets with a drop or two of water, it makes a great acne treatment.
  • Rosewater -a really good, non-drying toner.
  • Oatmeal - makes for a great face mask.
  • Baking Soda - for whitening teeth.
  • Egg Whites rub ‘em on and let ‘em dry, they’ll firm your skin up and minimize your pores.

D.I.Y Skincare: Scrub Edition

DIY Pore-Opening Scrub

  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 Tablespoon raw brown sugar

Mix the baking soda with the sugar then rub it onto your face until your skin tingles (this will take 30seconds to 5 minutes). Wash it off with warm water. This is good for opening up your pores, and helps clear up your skin and mattify it.

NOTE: You should test out how your skin reacts to baking soda before you put it all over your face. You might want to replace it with honey; honey and sugar = amazing face scrub as well.

Oatmeal Skin-Polishing Scrub

  • 3/4 cup dry oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup honey

Mix the oatmeal with honey until it’s well blended, rub it onto your face for a few minutes then rinse it off in the shower.

Almond-Mayonnaise Scrub

  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1/8 tsp mayonnaise

Grind almonds until fine. Add mayonnaise just until it’s mixed, then rub this paste gently over face, leave 10 minutes and then rinse. This is best for dry skin.

I make an all over body scrub using one whole avo, two tablespoons of oil, one tablespoon lemon juice (fresh), and refined white sugar mixed together. (You add in the sugar to your liking, the more you have, the rougher it is, obviously) The citrus adds an exciting and refreshing punch to it, and all of it is good for you! And for particularly unruly acne breakouts, I make an aspirin mask.

Home Hair Recipes: Avacado Conditioner + Moisturizer

powderdoom:

I’m a huge, huge fan of home remedies like face masks (seriously, my face would be Mars if I didn’t do an aspirin mask semi-regularly) but I’m getting into hair masks too. Here’s a foolproof recipe on how to get your hair shiny, healthy, and generally hair-commercial ready. You can use the remaining product for a moisturizer as well. Kinda rad?

  • Get a single giant avocado and slice it in half. Save the other half – you can use it for a moisturizer later.
  • Mash the avocado until creamy and stir in 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Massage into damp hair from roots to tip, combing through to even out. Loosely fasten hair in a bun and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Wash out completely, shampooing and conditioning as normal.

Moisturizer:

  • Mash 1/2 of an avocado until creamy.
  • Then, stir in 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • Wash face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
  • Smooth avocado mixture onto skin and let sit for 20-30 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

Bam.

oh! I also have a solution that helped clear my acne. Coconut oil! I put organic coconut oil on my face at night like a night cream and it works wonders. Apparently it tricks your pores in to believing they have enough sebum so they produce less and are less likely to clog up. It might not work for all skin types, but it's definitely worked for mine. I have fair, combination, acne prone skin.

Love this! Coconut Oil is also a miracle worker on dry hair. Basically everyone should just bathe in coconut oil. It’s the best thing ever.

best at home remedies to get rid of spots (honey etc?) you have lovely skin!

Well I stopped using home remedies and went to the dermatologist — that is why my skin is so nice, lots of expensive dermatologist products! Salicylic and glycolic acid really do nothing for me, they just overdry my skin. The only products that work for me aren’t available to the mass market and so I have to have them prescribed. Le sigh.

I’m a fan of toothpaste on acne (plain white kind), and honey/yogurt/aspirin masks. Uncoated aspirin tablets mashed up with a drop of water on any spots is a great quick fix for acne and I used that mask combo constantly before I went to the dermatologist to fight  my acne.

I have been using this mask on and off to control my acne and lighten my scars, and it is an /amazing/ mask. Completely recommended and I love Bubz so be sure to check her videos out!
