Treat Yo Self - The Ultimate Guide to Pampering

image

I am known for being the patron saint of pampering amongst my friends — they come to me for lingerie advice (for my lingerie favorites, here you go), we have Femme Night where I pamper them with girl group playlists (you can have some too), face masks, mani-pedi’s, hair braiding, and full access to my makeup collection. I am, despite my perma-sullen facial expression and closet full of leather, a super ultra girly girl. And bathtime is my sacred ritual. It makes you feel so much better! You sit and soak in your feeilngs and then get to wash the bad ones down the drain, if only for awhile. I want to share with you all my favorite things for ultimate #treatyoself nightly wonder. Let’s get to it.

One - The Soaps and Washes.
I’m putting these together because you might not have a bathtub, but you still gotta pamper yourself. I revolve shower products depending on how grumpy I am (the grumpier, the better smelling the products, so I can stew in the water and just sniff myself to feel better. that isn’t weird right?)

I have talked about my obsession with the Malin+Goetz Rum scent before, this is the bar soap version whereas I talked about the candle. I also love tea + more earthy smells (or baked good smells) so I gravitate towards those. LUSH cannot be forgotten here, but my favorite shower+gel products are limited edition Christmas ones and aren’t available right now. (For reference: Jilted Elf Shower Jelly and Twilight Shower Gel)

This is going to be a long, in depth post, so jump the cut for more.

Arabelle’s Current Skincare Routine

We’ve been getting pretty repetitive questions more than usual lately perhaps because the influx of followers daily which is why we haven’t answered many questions lately — there are just so many times we want to repeat ourselves when we say check the tags. One of the most repetitive questions is about my haircare routine — if you check the hair tag I list all of my haircare products, including my hair dye. It never changes. However! Skincare does. So! Here is what I’ve been using for the past few weeks / months and what I’m loving, along with mini-reviews.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil: I’ve been using this twice a day since I got it at IMATS. Usually I wait ages before reviewing skincare but I can tell you right now I love it — my skin has totally been dying but I have noticed a vast difference in it’s dullness, moisture content, and general health since using this. It is a little thicker than the drugstore alternative of this (Kose Softymo, review here). I don’t even use a full pump of this stuff, maybe half a pump and it gets rid of a full face of makeup including waterproof mascara and eyeliner. I am a big fan.
Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser: When you have dry skin it’s super important to exfoliate regularly to get rid of the flaky skin that ruins even the most painstakingly applied makeup. I really love this one — more than Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant, more than Bobbi Brown’s exfoliant, more than St. Ive’s, more than my asian drugstore versions. I use this after DHC or while I’m in the bathtub and my face is steaming.
CeraVe Moisturizer: I mean, it’s boring but it totally works for my super dry sensitive skin and doesn’t smell funny or make me break out like other boring moisturizers, the end.
Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Sleeping Mask: I got this because my skin was screaming for moisture and you know how much I love the Water Fuse BB Cream. Well, this is great too. <3___<3 If you have dry, sensitive skin that sometimes burns when you use serums or whatever for moisture this might be a godsend.
Skinfood Fermented Pomegranate Whitening Sleeping Mask: I am not an advocate for skin whitening for the sake of being whiter because privilege or whatever, it’s your business what you do with your skin and why you do it. I use this simply to lighten up my acne scarring. Jury is out how good it is, I’m not gonna repurchase but I don’t plan on wasting it either.
Skinfood Kiwi Yogurt Mask: This is the old lady of the bunch — I’ve been using this mask for years, I think this is like my fourth tub haha. I recommend it to everyone and it’s awesome for both light exfoliation, brightening, moisture and acne (if you crush up a lil’ aspiration or add lemon juice, since this is a yogurt mixture).
My Beauty Diary Pearl Mask: This is my favorite MBD skin mask. Both Chi-Chi and I use these masks.
Let me know if you have any questions about these products in detail or if they’ve worked (or failed) for you! High-res

Following up Chi-Chi’s Most Worn Summer Tag, I thought I’d do it as well — my makeup and beauty routines are way different in Taipei because I only brought my favorite products, and out of that, I use the same 6 daily and the rest, never. So this is going to be probably really boring. I’ll do the makeup portion in a different post.
Starting with skincare:
Shiseido Revital Moisturizer $74.70 - This is actually my Aunts, she has a lot of Shiseido products and uses them pretty much exclusively. This is the softest, most luxe moisturizer I’ve ever applied, I think it probably (undoubtedly, actually) has a buttload of silicones (pleasant image, yes??) because there is no way it can make my skin feel so smooth without containing lots of them. Nevertheless, I’ve been using it every day and I really will miss it when I have to leave it behind. It’s so expensive.
Shiseido Hada Senka Mineral Sunscreen UV SPF 27++ PA $11.90 - Got this because it was the biggest size of sunscreen available at an affordable price in Taipei, and I really have grown fond of it and it’s quick absorption and the formulation. It’s definitely nothing at all like conventional U.S sunscreens, it’s more of a lotion or milk texture than gross chunky U.S brand and it doesn’t smell as weird.
Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil $13.30 - this is in our favorites tag for a reason, I won’t reiterate my love for it here.
Coppertone Sensitive Skin SPF 50+ Face Sunscreen - I’m not like, a huge fan of it, I prefer the Senka formulation. It has that dreaded white cast on your skin and it takes forever to settle in and stop being shiny. I wouldn’t recommend it over anything else, but I use it when I go bareface and I intend to finish it because it doesn’t break me out.
@ Nature Tea Tree Pore Freshener EX $14.60 - My other toners weren’t doing the job I wanted, and I wanted something to help battle my acne. This does the job of toning and helping battle my acne and counteracts redness.
Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream Plus SPF 50 $64 - It almost physically pains me that this sunscreen costs so goddamn much, because it’s awesome and smooth and absorbs nicely and does everything the Coppertone one fails at.
My Beauty Diary Sheet Masks $13.60 - I do one every 5 days approximately, at the end of the week or the night before I go out partying. They make my face glow, feel hydrated and plump and alleviate redness and make me feel pampered and queen like. I really love them and have a scary arsenal of them in my luggage to bring back.

Kose Softymo Cleansing Oil Review

Chi-Chi & I are best makeup buddies for a lot of reasons, one of which is we share the same brain without realizing it and end up buying the same things without consulting each other — even though we have vastly different skin types. It makes for interesting phone conversations, and helps us determine what works for what skin type. What works for me, doesn’t work for her, so on. This cleansing oil seems to defy that rule though, because we’re both totally obsessed with this product. Detailed review from both of us after the jump!
