This is a show that I randomly found when looking through my subscriptions on Youtube, and I believe it’s something that people should watch. We really don’t think about society’s pressures on the beauty standard and how it affects others, especially from those who cannot adhere to those standards no matter how hard they try. A warning: It does show some graphic pictures of plastic surgery procedures.

I hope that this provides a new perspective on beauty and how it plays a role in life as it did for me.

side note: I admire the designer for doing a great job of casting multi-cultural models. once, I went to a show and asked the hairstylist (who of course had nothing to do with casting but anyway) what he did for models with African-American hair. he looked at me blankly and was like “there aren’t any walking the show.”

The photos of Joy Coci’s Spring Collection aren’t even up yet by the time I type this up (2AM. Dead at the keyboard) but I’ve got the makeup deal for you. It seems super approachable and lovely! Love the bright lipstick, it totally reminds me of the slideshow I did for Teen Vogue on Fall 2011 Beauty Trends. NEON NEVER DIES.

LOOK: “Radiant skin is having a moment again,” said Uzo, NARS International Lead Makeup Artist. “We were seeing very matte skin throughout the past few seasons, but dewiness is back, paired with a precisely-lined, bold lip. It’s elegant but it’s tough.”

Backstage at HONOR.

NARS once again has provided me with backstage info on the beauty looks for my favorite shows, this time it’s HONOR. HONOR is an emerging brand that I was super excited to see show at the tents this season, as their presentation last season was probably one of my favorite things. It’s wonderful to see them grow exponentially every year. Anyway, the makeup! 

LEAD ARTIST: James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry

TREND: Porcelain skin and heavy mascara

DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “Someone said that my collection was really girly,” said designer Giovanna Randall. “So I decided to go all the way and make it ultra feminine, but also with something slightly ‘off.’ I had a vision of creating an army of angry dolls that had been played with too much, not precious dolls that sit on a shelf.”

LOOK: “The look is reminiscent of Penelope Tree, and Catherine Deneuve,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “The eyelashes are messy and drawn on, with a lot of mascara. Everything else is perfect – the skin is porcelain, and the lip color is like lips that have been bitten. The key to the look is really the lashes. When you think you’ve got enough mascara, add two more coats.”
