As you may have noticed I try things for weeks if not months before I say anything about them and usually get things weeks before they go on the market. I do not have any obligations or sponsorships with brands or even answer to magazine advertisers so I am 100% not shitting you when I say something sucks or something rules, even if they are given to me for free or whatever. Ok now that that disclaimer is aside, here is what is currently #NEW #FRESH #TRENDY at Sephora that live up to the hype. I just skimmed the “Just Arrived” section and have had all of these for months now so you can skip the hype or blog reviews. Here is the scoop.

  1. This Bite Lipstick tastes amazing. It’s also hella moisturizing and safe (free of all the junk of parabens etc blah blah blah), mostly I love it because it tastes SO GOOD? Like the most delicious cherry lipbalm or something? I actually put it on when I’m hungry sometimes just for the flavor. It’s gluten free also, whoohoo.
  2. Bobbi Brown stick foundation is the wave if you have a lot of scarring or acne. It is hella heavy duty. Technically it’s not new, just repackaged, I believe. Maybe minor adjustments to the formulation, it’s just as good as it ever was. You can use this as a concealer (probably wisest, you don’t need heavy duty coverage 100% of the time everywhere, even with bad skin). But yes. One of the best foundations out there. Comes in a good color range too. They just expanded it into darker colors.
  3. Margiela’s new fragrances are the only thing I stan for in regards to the brand besides Tabis. I like how sweet they are and the packaging is beautiful and the smell lasts a long time.
  4. Urban Decay Electric Palette - I feel like this was made just for me. When I saw the press release it took me all about 2 seconds to call them up and beg for them to send me one to try out “for the readers”. SO PIGMENTED. I’ve been using it almost every day! I LOVE IT. SO MUCH. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. There’s not a dud in this. actually I don’t like the silver that much but the blue more than makes up for it. Best blue ever. Like, forreal. You know the Nars blue everyone loves but is disappointed by? This is that blue, but better. Sorry NARS, I love your concealers a lot tho.

HOW TO: PAMPER YOURSELF
by Kailey

With stressful lives and the gloomy weather, feeling blue in the last legs of winter is almost inevitable. In times like these, I think we all deserve an hour or so just to ourselves for self care in the form of relaxing and pampering. Since I’ve been feeling a little glum myself, I thought I’d outline some of my favorite ways to "treat yo self"!

Put On Your Favorite Lipstick
Is it just me, or does putting on lipstick put anybody else in a good mood? I have found that devoting a couple minutes to experimenting with your makeup makeup collection has always been a bit therapeutic! After wanting and saving for months, I finally splurged on a Tom Ford lipstick (in Paradiso) and it is heaven. Another favorite? Too Faced’s Juicy Melons.

I'm a first time buyer of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab products. I live quite far from the actual store, so I will be ordering online and i have never tried any of the fragrances irl. Right now my first choice is Hollywood Babylon. Do you have any opinion on that fragrance in particular, or any recommendations? (my favorite note is amber, and i dislike anything that smells similar to teen boy deodorant.)

Nope, never tried it. My internet friend Sady Doyle has a perfume blog and she goes into detail on the BPAL fragrances she’s tried, if that helps you any. I personally have not used any of my BPAL fragrances for a few months now since I’m testing out the entire line of Commodity right now, and some by Killian. I also to note have never bought an entire BPAL fragrance, I only buy the imp vials and hoard them. That way I’m not committing to any bigger vial of a fragrance that ends up smelling weird on me. Imp vials are much more practical!

People have been asking me about my fave perfumes for a minute now, here are the ones I keep at my desk and wear on a daily/weekly basis. Not including the ones that aren’t out yet or over $200 because they aren’t really accessible imo. I can do a roundup of those at a future date if you’d like. Anyway, a breakdown.
Perfumes: Tom Ford Noir, Calvin Klein Downtown*, Jo Malone Vetyver*, Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger*, MMM Replica Funfair Evening*, CDG Blue Encens, Balenciaga L’essence, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Dior Poison (vintage 1987 formulation)*, NEST White Sandalwood*, Camellia by Soap and Paper Factory*.
I’m not going to go scent by scent describing the notes and story behind them all (I’m going to see Beyonce later today! I have to get ready!) but the notes in these are all similar.
Bergamot
Violet
Tuberose
Black Pepper
Nutmeg
Amber
Patchouli
Vetiver
Vanilla
I lean towards very intense perfumes, I don’t like light, airy, floral smells, I like leathery, oriental chypre formulations, noirs, more unisex perfumes. I think the exceptions to this would be Funfair Evening and Balenciaga’s, which are more powdery sweet and floral than the rest. If you’d like in depth reviews of any particular scent let me know! But here are my current frequent favorites.  High-res

Shop the post: Hourglass, Calvin Klein,  Marc Jacobs.

Haven’t done quicksnap reviews in awhile so here ya go. I’ve been trying out these products for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts. Full disclosure: all of them were sent for editorial consideration either by the brands, by PR, or by VOGUE. This does not impact my opinions on the products.
I’m really bummed about the MJ lipgloss though. I think his brushes are spectacular, and I enjoy just fluffing them over my face when I’m bored. High-res

New pretties! The Rose and Deep in Earth, along with event-exclusives Forever is Mercy Built and G’milut Chasadim. 5mls of The Raptures and Roses of Vice and Sound of Insects are on the way… *drools*

My stash might sort of be taking over my entire dresser - only the stuff I love and wear frequently is out! The rest is in a backup box or in the drawer shown.

So MANY PERFUME SAMPLES!!! I just received my first batch of samples from them a few days ago and am testing them out now. Perfume is so interesting and strange and lovely, and BPAL especially so. Can’t wait to finish  testing them.

Quick snap of things I’ve been trying out or can’t wait to. Some of these were purchased by me, some were gifted, * means gifted but obvi doesn’t impact my feelings about the actual product because duh integrity.
Illamasqua Foundation ($44) - I purchased this months ago during the sale but I haven’t used it yet and I’m still feeling weird about using Illamasqua products since their terrible handling of their Christmas promotions (just google it, I know we’ll be asked, and I’m not going to talk about it anymore). Illamasqua has amazing, high quality products especially their lipsticks and foundation for super pale people who want intense coverage.
Arrojo Styling Whip* ($18) - I get my hair cut at ARROJO (pics of my hair here) and love both their dry shampoo and their Styling Whip. I never used styling products on my hair when it was long but I think it’s so important now because my hair is super malleable and if I don’t control it at such a short length it can look weird. This is super light and easy to use — a little bit through damp hair to shape it the way you want, and you can air dry. Most mousses and gels etc I’ve tried have been too tacky or gooey but this isn’t.
Mario Badescu Caviar Night Cream ($20) - I buy all my MB products during the Hautelook sales but they didn’t have the toner I liked so I picked this and the lotion instead. This is quite thick! I think the Ren one I like to use but ran out of is more like a super creamy lotion, but this is definitely more whipped. I’m still testing it out, I’ll let you know how I like it in a little bit.
Balenciaga L’Essence ($135) - I’ve totally talked to death about this. Yeah yeah perfect perfume I love it etc.
Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer ($39) - Rebought this because I’ve already hit pan on my first one after only a few months! It’s been steadfast in favorites posts since I purchased it.
China Glaze Polish & L’Oreal’s Paparazzi Pleaser ($5.99)* - Haven’t used these yet since I’m currently obsessed with Color Club Glitters.
Shoprite Oil Free Makeup Remover ($7.99) - I remove all my makeup using DHC Cleansing Oil now usually but if I have a lot of eye makeup on, I use some variation of the Nuetrogena remover. Target, Shoprite, etc… pretty much all the same formula. I like it best out of all the ones I’ve tried which have often been too oily or weirdly harsh.
Illamasqua Poised Illuminator ($20) - I am fond of using illuminators and contour and no blush, so I bought this one also during the sale because I was curious. Still haven’t touched it though.
Illamasqua Indulge ($22) - Illamasqua’s lip products have never failed me and make up a good chunk of my collection. Pigmented, super glossy or super matte depending on the producted, but never crappy.
Mario Badescu Alpha Grapefruit Cleansing Lotion ($15) - I like using this post cleansing and it really makes a difference for my dry skin — helps it glow, looks brighter etc.
